The School Program of the 42nd Défi sportif AlterGo has come to a close, Friday May 2, and nearly 600 young athletes outdid themselves to finish the week on a high note. Meanwhile, at the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship, Carl Marquis’ Team Québec qualified for the final four!
Grand finale of School Program a grand success!
Close to 600 young athletes gathered at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard for the final day of the school program.
Once again Friday, numerous parents filled the stands, proud to see their children and pleased to be a part of an event where their child flourishes in fully adapted competitions.
“We’re really proud, because this is one of the only events where my daughter can participate with her disability, so it really means a lot to us,” commented one mom.
For some young athletes with disabilites, the Défi sportif AlterGo is also an incredibly valuable chance to see other young people who look like them, being athletic and active – just like they are.
“My son was so happy to see that there are other kids like him, and that they have the right to participate in races like this. It’s very important,” confirmed another mother of a young athlete.
For many young athletes with disabilities, training to take part in the event, and having a chance to surpass their limits, helps young people believe in themselves.
“It helps my daughter to believe, to always go further and never give up. Now she knows that she, too, can take part in sports and activities where she’ll have the chance to excel,” concluded a third mother who accompanied her daughter today.
