Montréal, April 29, 2023 – Senator and Défi sportif AlterGo spokesperson Chantal Petitclerc came to cheer on the athletes taking part in the Classic that bears her name. The swimming events took place at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, while the power soccer and wheelchair basketball competitions were held at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit. At the Montréal 2023 World Boccia Cup, the Ciobanu-Levine duo won its two games of the day, qualifying for the pairs semi-finals.
The long-awaited return of the Chantal Petitclerc Classic
The temperature was cool on the track of the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on Saturday. However, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes who were competing in the Chantal Petitclerc Classic! Because the athletes competed in a variety of divisions and could therefore not be compared, their results were generally more relevant on a personal level. However, the competition was no less exciting! “It’s great to attend the Classic when the sport is at a high point and there are a lot of athletes, but the Classic may be even more important when there are fewer,” noted Petitclerc, who was on hand to support the athletes. “It’s an opportunity to get together and get motivated before competing internationally.”
In addition to the track races, the Chantal Petitclerc Classic also featured shot put and javelin events.
The action continues for Théo and the Aigles
At Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, athletic ambassador Théo Gallant kicked off his competition at the Défi sportif AlterGo. His wheelchair basketball team, the Aigles du Sud-Ouest, had lost its first game to the Laval Gladiateurs 41-24 on Friday. On Saturday, they were up against the Quebec City Bulldogs 1. The game was tight, but Théo and his team succeeded in defeating their opponents 53-41. “I’m proud of my games and my performance,” he stated. “I’m looking forward to our next game, which will be a good challenge.”
It will indeed be a good challenge, because they will be in the elimination rounds! The final will take place on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
