A beautiful finish for Canada at the Montréal 2023 World Boccia Cup
Pairs partners Ciobanu and Levine, who previously won gold and bronze medals in the individual events, continued their successful streak today. After beating the USA and Croatia in the qualification rounds, they dispatched of Britain 3-2 in their first elimination match. In the final, they faced the Croatians, whom they had narrowly defeated in their previous meeting. Croatia took a two-point lead in the first end. Not to be outdone, the Canadians pushed ahead to lead 4-2. In the final end, Levine and Ciobanu clinched the gold medal with a score of 6-2.
Home team scoreless in para hockey
After two unsuccessful games for Canada in its series against the United States in para hockey, the team hoped to rally in their final clash. In the first period, the Americans kept up the pressure in the offensive zone, but the host country managed to hold them off. In the second period, the visitors opened the scoring, quickly following up with a second goal a few minutes later. Saoud Messaoudi and his teammates were unable to overcome the deficit, and lost the game 2-0. “Nobody likes to lose, but I really enjoyed this series,” said the athletic ambassador of the 40th Défi sportif AlterGo. “We grew as a team and we learned a lot, and that’s what this week was all about.”
Silver for Théo and the Mini-Aigles
In the Mini division, our athletic ambassador helped his team reach the big final, where they faced the Quebec City Bulldogs. In the hard-fought match, the Bulldogs defeated the Montréalers. The athletic ambassador thus concluded the tournament with a silver medal. In division 3, Théo and the Aigles were pitted against the Vikings. The Vikings came out ahead 36-32. The Aigles finished the tournament in sixth place.
