In 2022, the Défi sportif AlterGo presents a program that includes high-level sports competitions, sporting competitions in schools and a virtual component. From April 22 to May 1, 2022, more than 4,000 athletes are expected for 10 days of competition. 12 sports will be presented on 7 competition sites in Montreal and Longueuil.

“After 2 years of mostly virtual programming due to the pandemic, we are delighted to finally be able to present live competitions. We are looking forward to seeing the athletes, volunteers, officials and all the participants,” says Maxime Gagnon, CEO of AlterGo.

Here are some of the competitions not to be missed during Canada’s largest multi-sport event. The Défi sportif AlterGo will host the Wheelchair Rugby National Championships, in collaboration with Wheelchair Rugby Canada, from April 28 to May 1. 10 teams from 5 provinces, made up of the best players in the country, will take over the Patro Villeray.

In addition, the Maurice-Richard Arena will host a national boccia competition, in collaboration with Boccia Canada and the Association québécoise de sports pour paralytiques cérébraux. This will be an opportunity to see the future rising stars shine in Montreal.

Then, the Défi sportif AlterGo will host the selection camp for the national parahockey development team, where the best prospects will try to make the team for the next Paralympic Games! Quebec prospects will also compete during the last weekend of the event.

The Chantal Petitclerc Para-Athletics Classic and the Para-cycling Gary-Longhi Challenge will be back at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on April 30 and May 1.

Then, thousands of young people from 47 schools across Quebec will participate in the school component of the Défi sportif AlterGo, which will be held at Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard and at Maurice-Richard Arena. The school competition of rhythmic gymnastics will be held virtually.

Several other provincial and national competitions will be held. Consult the complete program of the event for all the details!

In my school

The Défi sportif AlterGo innovates by presenting Dans mon école, a component that takes place in schools and rehabilitation centers for individual school sports. From April 5 to 22, more than 2,000 young athletes will participate in track and field, CrossFit and a mini-marathon.

Valuable spokespersons

The Défi sportif AlterGo can count on a group of precious spokespersons, formed by Chantal Petitclerc, Jean-Marie Lapointe, Hugo Girard and Nancy Audet. In addition to them, the team is very proud to welcome this year the TV host Meeker Guerrier as an ambassador of the event. Meeker, who is visually impaired, shares the same values of inclusion and surpassing oneself as the organization and his contribution will be beneficial to the event.

Health measures

The Défi sportif AlterGo organizing committee is committed to the health of all participants and to creating a safe competition environment for all. A set of sanitary measures will be put in place by the organizing committee. See the COVID-19 Guide for more details.
